It might sound dramatic, but a large part of the Blue Oval's local prosperity has been bet on this car. Ford Australia won't cease to be if the FG range is not a hit, but its future options are bound to be limited.

If Australia once rode on the sheep's back, then Ford's fortunes ride on the broad shoulders of the new FG. It's future profitability is ensconced in the freshly upholstered and upgraded interior of the FG range of sedans and utes.

Such are the vagaries of publishing embargoes that as these FG Falcon stories are written we've seen pictures of the various new Falcon models and even been privy to briefings on the key systems and assemblies that underpin them. What we don't know is chapter and verse on Ford's model range strategy, nor the features and equipment levels that underpin those models.

We've detailed the engine outputs and fuel economy claims elsewhere (see links below) and looked into the dynamic and refinement claims for the new model. Its packaging and development have been summarised, yet full dimensions are still to be released, as are important stats like kerb weights.

Most of these gaps will be filled at today's unveiling of the FG range in Melbourne, and over the next few days -- we'll do our best to bring the information to you as soon as possible.

Among what is still to be revealed is the pricing strategy for the new models, as well as full details on the safety equipment that will be included and test results such as the ANCAP crash rating.
